Fort McMurray’s Premier Event Venue Since 1981
Built in 1981 and formerly known as the Casman Centre and Thickwood Heights Arena, Centerfire Place is a community cornerstone and the proud home of the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The facility features a 1,537-seat arena, a multipurpose room, an amphitheatre, and space for the Fort McMurray Potters Guild.
For over 40 years, Centerfire Place has brought Fort McMurray together through sports, concerts, cultural gatherings, and community celebrations.
A Legacy of Major Events
Over the years, Centerfire Place has hosted some of the most memorable moments in Fort McMurray’s event history. Major hockey tournaments, including the 2000 Doyle and Royal Bank Cups, the 2015 Western Canada Cup, and Hockey Canada’s Red and White Game in 2011, have all taken place here. Most recently, the venue welcomed an NHL Alumni Game between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks in October 2024.
From championship ringette to the Arctic Winter Games in both 2004 and 2023, Centerfire Place has earned its reputation as a reliable venue for high-profile sporting events. It’s also the site of 11 AJHL records — including the two fastest goals ever scored, just four seconds apart, in February 2025.

The stage at Centerfire Place has welcomed an impressive lineup of performers, from Our Lady Peace and Theory of a Deadman to Snoop Dogg, Alice Cooper, and Tom Cochrane. Community events like the Graveyard Gala, Drive Thru Rib Fest, Europa Super Circus, and Wildrose Shows reflect the venue’s deep roots in Fort McMurray’s cultural calendar.
